About Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya

 The origin of Navodaya Vidyalayas can be traced to three ideas viz, “Excellence", "equality of educational opportunity", and social justice".

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are a country wide chain of schools run by the Navodaya Vidyalay Samiti (NVS) financed by central govt. under ministry of HRD. Unlike other schools these vidyalayes are located in rural areas, one in each district at present and they provide quality progressive education free of cost to talented rural children. The vidyalayes residential culture is perhaps a unique features of these vidyalayes and through this features they attempt to attain various objectives. Residential culture provides a social meltiry pot where in student from different social classes different economic backgrounds and cultures learn to leave harmoniously.
The National Policy on Education (1986) in section 5.14 and 5.15 recommended that “Pace Setting school to be established with full scope for innovation and experimentation”. The task force set up for concretizing three recommendeations proposed in the programme of action 1986 that on Navodaya Vidyalaya be set up in each district under seventh Five Year Plan for catering to high achievers in rural areas.
